When I needed some marketing help, Elizabeth Blakely was recommended to me by a friend. I have always done all of my marketing stuff myself. After all, how difficult is it to do your own LinkedIn profile? I thought I was hiring someone who would help me because I was pressed for time, and was therefore ‘outsourcing’ some work. What I quickly learned was that Elizabeth brought a whole new layer of knowledge and professionalism. She helped to craft the message and make the message delivery connected and consistent. Our initial project grew to include my web site, document templates, etcetera; they all now have a similar, modern, look and feel. Elizabeth also led the creation of a strategic marketing plan to guide future work. Equally importantly, Elizabeth understands the technology behind the various elements of digital marketing and helped me to understand how it all knits together.
It can be difficult to gauge the overall value of marketing. I think of it this way: would you buy tomatoes from a farmer if the produce was all in a heap, equipment had oil running down the side, and the sign was barely hanging from one nail? Today’s produce is the content, the equipment is the tools & processes we use, and the sign is the web site. So if those elements are professional, you are giving prospective clients a reason to try your product or service. Importantly, you are NOT giving them a reason to go elsewhere. For example, think of a website as driving by a prospective home you might want to buy – make sure you do not give prospective customers a reason to keep driving!
Beyond marketing professionalism and technical savvy, I have found Elizabeth to be an excellent business person with a great head on her shoulders. She looks at the world in a way that is different from me and additive to the enterprise. I have found her to be a valuable voice at my personal “leadership table.” She is willing to raise her hand and tell you something is amiss. She also understands that when a decision is made, it is time to move on. Elizabeth has become a valuable and trusted colleague in a very short period of time. I look forward to working with her for years to come.
